  103.   Welcome! You have chosen a powerful Windows image, text, and video
  104.   capture program that allows you many options. SnagIt is for any
  105.   computer user who needs to capture more than a few screens for
  106.   any purpose, such as:

  131.   SnagIt has been providing Microsoft Windows users with an easy way
  132.   to capture and print Windows screens since it was first released in
  133.   1990.  In "Windows 3.1 Secrets," author Brian Livingston calls
  134.   SnagIt "the print utility Microsoft Windows forgot."

  136. 1.1 What is the SnagIt Twin Pack?
  137.  
  138.   Many organizations are in the early stages of the transition from
  139.   Windows 3.1x to Windows 95 or NT.  To assist during this period,
  140.   TechSmith is offering the SnagIt Twin Pack.  It includes a 16-bit
  141.   version, tailored for Windows 3.1x, as well as a true 32-bit version
  142.   for Windows 95 and NT. The setup program automatically detects the
  143.   workstation's operating environment and loads the appropriate
  144.   version.  The purchaser is licensed to run either version and to
  145.   switch between them without further payment. Purchasing the Twin
  146.   Pack provides the benefits of running SnagIt today without the
  147.   penalty of Windows 95 or NT upgrade fees in the future.

  150. 2.  SNAGIT TWIN PACK SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  151. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  152.   In order to run SnagIt, your system must meet these specifications:
  153.  
  154.   o  An IBM PC or compatible that meets the minimum hardware
  155.      requirements for your version of Microsoft Windows.
  156.  
  157.   o  Microsoft Windows 3.1x, Windows For Workgroups 3.1x,
  158.      Windows NT 3.51 (or higher) or Windows 95 installed and
  159.      configured on your system.
  160.  
  161.   o  A mouse or other pointing device
  162.  
  163.   o  For printed output, a Windows-supported printer that can print
  164.      bitmaps. (This includes most of the laser, dot matrix and ink jet
  165.      printers that Windows supports.  Plotters are not recommended for
  166.      use with SnagIt due to their inability to print bitmaps.)

  186.   you'll need to use SnagIt.

  261.     o  The full Text Capture feature is only available on Windows 95
  262.        systems.  SnagIt will only capture text from the clipboard
  263.        on Windows NT systems.

  265.     o  The anti-aliasing feature only supports systems using
  266.        greater than 256 colors.
  267.  
  268.     o  SnagIt/32 hangs on e-mail output on Windows 95 if only 16-bit
  269.        MS Mail has been configured (i.e. MAPI is in use, but neither
  270.        MS Exchange or any other 32-bit MAPI mail client has been
  271.        configured).

  287. 6.  SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
  288. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  289. 6.1 Installation Instructions
  290.  
  291.   The SnagIt installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  292.   application.  You must have Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows
  293.   NT or Windows 95 installed prior to installing SnagIt.  Setup will
  294.   automatically detect the version of Windows in use and copy the
  295.   appropriate files during the install.  To install SnagIt, perform
  296.   the following steps:
  297.  
  298.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  299.  
  300.   2. Insert the SnagIt Twin Pack diskette into a floppy drive.
  301.  
  302.   For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:
  303.  
  304.   3. From the Start menu, select Run
  305.  
  306.   For Windows 3.1x and Windows NT 3.51 users:
  307.  
  308.   3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
  309.      from the drop down menu.
  310.  
  311.   For all users:
  312.  
  313.   4. In the dialog box, enter:
  314.           a:\setup
  315.      (If you are installing SnagIt from a diskette drive other than
  316.      the A drive, you will need to change the drive letter in the
  317.      command line above.)
  318.  
  319.   5. Click on the OK button.
  320.  
  321.   6. Follow the instructions given by the setup wizard for correct
  322.      installation of the product.

  325. 6.2  Installed Files
  326.  
  327.   The SnagIt setup program copies the following files to your
  328.   computer during installation:

  330.   dderef.doc      SnagIt DDE command reference.
  331.   install.log     Log file used by the uninstall program.
  332.   snagit.exe      16-bit executable for Windows 3.1x.
  333.   snagit.hlp      Windows Help file for the 16-bit SnagIt.

  335.   snagit32.exe    32-bit executable for Windows 95 & Windows NT.

  344. 6.3  Uninstall Instructions
  345.  
  346.   If after installing SnagIt Twin Pack, you find it necessary to
  347.   remove the software from your computer, perform the following steps:
  348.  
  349.   Uninstall instructions for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  350.  
  351.   1. Run the Windows Control Panel
  352.  
  353.   2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.
  354.  
  355.   3. Select SnagIt from the list of applications that can uninstalled
  356.      by Windows.
  357.  
  358.   4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall SnagIt.
  359.  
  360.   Uninstall instructions for Windows NT 3.51
  361.  
  362.   1. In Program Manager, open the program group where you installed
  363.      SnagIt.
  364.  
  365.   2. Click on the Uninstall SnagIt icon to remove SnagIt from your
  366.      system.
  367.  
  368.   If the uninstall program encounters errors, or if you have
  369.   Windows 3.x, see the following section for uninstall instructions.
  370.

  372. 6.4  Manual Uninstall Instructions
  373.  
  374.   If you do not have Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, or encountered a
  375.   problem during the uninstall, here are the steps you can take to
  376.   manually uninstall SnagIt from your computer.
  377.  
  378.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows 3.1x and WFW 3.1x
  379.  
  380.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  381.  
  382.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group in which SnagIt was
  383.      installed. Click once on the SnagIt icon to highlight it. Press
  384.      the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  385.  
  386.   3. If you selected "Automatically run SnagIt when Windows starts"
  387.      during installation, delete SnagIt from the Startup group.
  388.  
  389.      In Program Manager, find the Startup group. Click once on the
  390.      SnagIt icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm that
  391.      you wish to delete the program item.
  392.  
  393.   4. Run File Manager and change to the directory in which you
  394.      installed SnagIt.  Delete all the files listed in section 6.2.
  395.  
  396.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows NT and Windows 95
  397.  
  398.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  399.  
  400.   For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:
  401.  
  402.   2. From the Start Menu, select Settings and then Taskbar. Now
  403.      configure your Start Menu Programs by clicking on the Advanced
  404.      button.
  405.  
  406.   3. Find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was installed. Click
  407.      once on the SnagIt/32 filename to highlight it. Press the delete
  408.      key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  409.  
  410.   4. If you selected "Automatically run SnagIt/32 when Windows starts"
  411.      during installation, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  412.  
  413.      Follow step #2 and then find the Startup group. Click once on the
  414.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  415.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  416.  
  417.   5. Run Windows Explorer and change to the directory in which you
  418.      installed SnagIt/32. Delete all the files listed in section 6.2.
  419.  
  420.   For Windows NT 3.51 users:
  421.  
  422.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was
  423.      installed. Click once on the SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it.
  424.      Press the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program
  425.      item.
  426.  
  427.   4. If you selected "Automatically run SnagIt/32 when Windows starts"
  428.      during installation, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  429.  
  430.      In Program Manager, find the Startup group. Click once on the
  431.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  432.      that you wish to delete the program item.

  434.   4. Run File Manager and change to the directory in which you

  438. 7. REGISTERING SNAGIT TWIN PACK
  439. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  440.   This program and its associated files are part of an evaluation
  441.   package copyrighted by TechSmith Corporation. SnagIt is not in the
  442.   public domain.  This program must be registered if it is used
  443.   beyond the 45 day evaluation period.
  444.  
  445.   Single-User SnagIt Twin Pack
  446.  
  447.   Registration entitles the licensee to install either the 32 bit or
  448.   the 16 bit version of SnagIt and to switch between the two without
  449.   further payment.  The single-user license price is $39.95.
  450.  
  451.   When you register SnagIt Twin Pack, you have the option of
  452.   requesting a registered version of the software on diskette or of
  453.   requesting a software key to register the version you have. The
  454.   software key immediately removes all registration reminder screens.
  455.  
  456.   Multi-User SnagIt Twin Pack
  457.  
  458.   Registration entitles the licensed organization to install 10 copies
  459.   of SnagIt, in any combination of 16 bit and 32 bit. A single
  460.   diskette is shipped along with the multi-user license.  The 10-user
  461.   license price is $200.00.

  463.   Registration Instructions

  465.   1.  Select the SnagIt program's Help menu.
  466.  
  467.   2.  Select Register SnagIt from the menu.
  468.  
  469.   3.  Click on the Registration Form button.  Enter your registration
  470.       information in the fields provided.
  471.  
  472.       NOTE: You must specify a name or company name when you register.
  473.             Your software key will be personalized for that name ONLY.
  474.  
  475.   4.  When you are finished, select OK. This will create a text file
  476.       called REGISTER.TXT in the SnagIt default directory. This is
  477.       your registration and order form.  It includes a price sheet
  478.       and your Product ID number.
  479.  
  480.   5.  Windows Notepad will now open REGISTER.TXT automatically,
  481.       allowing you to edit and/or print the registration form.  While
  482.       you are editing, please complete any blank items, including
  483.       quantities, totals, and payment information. DO NOT EDIT THE
  484.       PRODUCT ID NUMBER. Note that shipping charges are only
  485.       applicable to diskette orders.
  486.  
  487.   6.  Return the registration form, with payment, to TechSmith
  488.       Corporation by any of the methods described on the form.  Upon
  489.       receipt of your order, TechSmith will generate your diskette or
  490.       software key. It will then be sent to you by the method of
  491.       your choice, either e-mail, fax, postal delivery or other.
  492.  
  493.   If you have elected to receive a software key, use the following
  494.   steps to complete the registration process.

  496.   7.  Select the Help->Register SnagIt menu item.

  498.   8.  Click on the Enter Software Key button.

  631. INSTALLING SNAGIT TWIN PACK

  633. The SnagIt installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  634. application.  You must have Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows
  635. NT or Windows 95 installed prior to installing SnagIt.  Setup will
  636. automatically detect the version of Windows in use and copy the
  637. appropriate files during the install.  To install SnagIt, perform
  638. the following steps:

  640. 1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.

  642. 2. Insert the SnagIt Twin Pack diskette into a floppy drive.

  644. For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:

  648. For Windows 3.x and Windows 95 users:

  650. 3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
